About Christy Williams

ImageChristy Williams is Program Coordinator for WWF's Asian Rhino and Elephant Action Strategy (AREAS) program. He has a Ph.D. in Wildlife science. He worked on elephants and their habitats in Rajaji-Corbett National Parks in northwestern India. He is still involved in active research with this population.

The Heart of Borneo survey is not Christy's first time doing animal surveys. In the northeastern Indian State of Meghalya, he surveyed and assessed elephant-human conflict for the Wildlife Institute of India. He was also part of a team studying sites for re-introducing a population of the critically endangered Asiatic lion into the wild.

An Indian national, Christy makes his home in WWF's Nepal office, but is officially on the staff of WWF International. He helps develop proposals, provides technical support, and monitors projects in progress - in short, he makes sure that project funding makes a difference in the real world. Christy is married to a gibbon ecologist and his favorite animal is the elephant (surprise, surprise). He lists his biggest achievement in AREAS as being able to work effectively as a team with the field staff and the technical experts.
